Install and use GSpace to install apps from Google Play on Huawei Harmony OS

Huawei has released its own branded mobile OS Harmony OS sometime back and some Huawei device models now support installing or upgrading to use Harmony OS. Since this OS is Huawei's own OS and it doesn't come with Google Play by default which most of the current Android apps are hosted on. In this case, how can someone install the apps from Google Play on Huawei Harmony OS or use GMS services like Google Play, Google Maps?

The solution provided by Huawei is to install GSpace which is an APP container where it can be thought as a virtual gallery store where apps from Google Play can be installed and launched within GSpace just like normal app installation and launch.

This post will show you how this GSpace can be installed and used. Before that, please first confirm that you are using Harmony OS now. This can be found through Settings - System & Update or About.

Next go to open the official Huawei AppGallery APP and search GSpace.

Tap on INSTALL and waiting it to be installed. Once done, open GSpace app. When opening it the first time, it will ask you to install some package kit, just proceed with it.

Next you will be brought to the page below.

You will be able to see the familiar Google Play logo and proceed to SIGN IN with your Google account.

Post sign in, you should be able to see some popular apps on the GSpace screen and you can choose or find the app you wanna install. These apps are actually from Google Play. 

Note the app you installed with GSpace can only be found within the GSpace app. It will not be shown on your Harmony OS apps list. To bring it to the system, you can long tap on the app and create shortcut for it.

Also you can install GMS with this if you don't have that on your Harmony OS yet and once GMS is installed, you could use Google Play store normally on Harmony OS.

The steps for installing other apps are:

  1. Tap on any app in GSpace, and select Upgrade
  2. This will bring you to the Google Play store
  3. Then you can search the app you wanna install, let's say Instagram
  4. It will show the app page with Install button
  5. Tap install, once it's installed, it will show up in GSpace
  6. You can use the app normally
  7. In case the app asks for some permission, go to Setting and grant GSpace corresponding permission

after u installed GSpace and open it, u should see some apps there already? can u find Google Play?

u can tap on any app in GSpace and select Upgrade and it will bring u to the Google Playstore and u can then search the app u wanna install and install it.

with GSpace, u can install them inside GSpace and use it as normal app. becoz those apps are actually from PlayStore.

it didn't install the packages only get the permition after that nothing
