The Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) is a United States bill to expand the ability of U.S. law enforcement to combat online copyright infringement and online trafficking in counterfeit goods. Its goal is to protect the intellectual-property market and corresponding industry, jobs and revenue. However since its proposal, many organizations protest against it as they believed it would threaten free speech and innovation, and enable law enforcement to block access to entire internet domains due to infringing content posted on a single blog or webpage. These organizations even designed some webpages to protest this act. One of the famous ones is from Wikipedia.

Good SOPA designs should effectively show a protest and a way to align with the protest. To this point, we will show you some good designs of anti SOPA.

1. Google blackout page

Google is the world's most visited website(Alexa #1). It will win out by the page view magnitude. Also, it provides users some additional links where they can register their protests against SOPA.

2. Wikipedia

Wikipedia also gets huge amount of daily visits. In addition, they blackouted the whole page and reminds users if they want to get free knowledge, they need to protest against SOPA. This is quite attractive.

3. SOPASTRIKE

Fight for the Future's sopastrike.com sample strike page is mostly elegant, playing the sensational angle for a sharp, popular template. It doesn't do civics education justice, but most people will find it pretty as long as they don't scroll down.

4.Zach

Zach Stronaut's "searchlight" template is also popular today, with wide variations. Again, heavy on the eye candy, but low on content, and therefore bad design.

5. Wordpress

It is urgent, confrontational, and Helvetica Bold-authoritative. It lays out the situation like a total badass, explaining as if on everyone's behalf and enabling users with direct actions for follow-up and learning, including a video.
